The One People's Project blog chronicles reactionary filmmaker-provocatuer and self-proclaimed "investigative journalist" James O'Keefe's attendance at a racist conference four years ago.  [More below the fold…]

O'Keefe made the news this week for facing federal felony charges after what is being characterized as "tampering" with phones in the New Orleans office of Senator Mary Landrieu.

O'Keefe is most well known for the so-called "Pimp tapes," a series of manipulated and selectively edited videos made at various offices of the community good governance group ACORN. The tapes were heavily promoted by FOX News and ultra-right-wing webmaster Andrew Breitbart, and engineered by O'Keefe to create the false impression of criminal behavior behavior by low-level employees of ACORN. Naturally, the mainstream press fell for the rat-fornicating of ACORN – as did Congress, who illegally voted to defund ACORN only to see their bill of attainder overturned in court. ACORN itself was exonerated in an independent investigation that went little reported in the mainstream press.

O'Keefe has seen many conservatives distancing themselves from him following his felony arrest, including Michelle Malkin. The woman who played the ex-hooker in the "Pimp tapes," Hannah Giles, figuratively threw O'Keefe under the bus.

On his own blog and in media appearances, O'Keefe's paymaster Andrew Breitbart has been unusually defensive and repeatedly pressing for everyone to wait for the facts to come in and to see the larger context. When one combines the observation made last fall that O'Keefe "goes after low-level bureaucrats and people who are trying to help low-income people" with the revelation that O'Keefe has freely cavorted with white racists, one has all the context one needs.
