Steve Young on another bold move by President-elect Obama -- that has a silver lining for those demanding accountability!

Following his call for Joe Lieberman to remain in the Democratic caucus, President-elect Barack Obama has gone one step further expressing his desire to allow President Bush to continue as President for the next four years.

“It’s unprecedented, but after the Lieberman reprieve it’s not surprising,” said presidential historian, Doris Kearns Goodwin. “Allowing Lieberman to retain his Chairmanship of the Department of Homeland Security Committee comes straight out of the George Washington play book, where our first president proposed to forgive traitor Benedict Arnold and allow him to stay in charge of the WGISRP (Watch The Guys In Short Red Pants) - a precursor of today’s CIA.”

The fact that President Bush as already served his constitutional maximum of two full terms, Obama’s transition team sees a simple signing statement, ala Bush’s proclivity for overriding bills and rights, would make way for another term for Bush.

“It also demonstrates a sincere willingness to reach across the aisle that we haven’t seen since Washington sought to keep England’s George III as King of America, a position that was dissolved immediately after Washington’s suggestion - something Ben Franklin confided to friends was ‘thinking that was as wooden as that lumber yard in that wig-wearing, fancy-boy’s mouth.’”

While some see this as an affront to the very people who elected Obama for a promised change from Bush, Obama Chief of Staff, Rahm Emanuel believes this is exactly what their supporters would want.

”Clearly the president-elect is sending a signal that working with the other side is not just some campaign pledge that disintegrates November 5th,” said Emanuel. “As an added bonus, it gives us more time to figure out the best way to get Bush impeached.”
