What Picture the Mosaic?
It depends on who's putting the pieces together.
by Steve Young

March 31, 2003 -- LOS ANGELES (apj.us) -- For my book, "Great Failures of the Extremely Successful" (Tallfellow Press), I spoke with many highly successful people from a myriad of fields who actually used their adversities as stepping stones to eventual victories. In every story, I was told that before they could move in a positive direction, they first had to deal with their lives honestly, accepting mistakes and obstacles for what they were, not as they wished they would be.

At Centcom this morning, in answer to a question about finding Iraqi chemical protection suits, General Vincent Brooks (Colin Powell in training) said, "It's all part of a mosaic" and that "[t]he Iraqi regime is desperate and they have no idea what they will do."

Interesting, this mosaic thing. It seems to be building a picture...

...but of what?

How about a mosaic that this desperate regime, so desperate, run by such a madman, is willing to use suicide bombers and kill their own citizens -- yet not use chemical weapons or other "WMDs"?

How about a mosaic that shows our soldiers having biological protection suits -- does that mean WE are going to use biological weapons?

How about a mosaic that says, "We look where we told the UN and the rest of the world that we had proof of where bio weapons and WMDs were -- and when our soldiers look there we find no proof that they ever were there?"

How about a mosaic that says we're in a war and losing our brave young men and woman as well as Iraqi innocents because of what we said was true -- and isn't?

How about a mosaic about a "liberal" media that sits at these press conferences -- and doesn't ask these questions, or follow up on these mosaic answers?

How about a mosaic of post-war profiteers giving advice as to whether we go to war or not?

How about a mosaic that, in truth, is a lie?

So I ask: are we building this mosaic honestly or from what we wished it would be?
