The APJ Mailbag

Re: Censorious News Network

This is from reporting. Take a look at the right side of this CNN Money page; they have a list of all the companies convicted and under investigation in all these Enron-type swindles.

CNN has blatantly omitted Halliburton! The same Halliburton who is under investigation for serious allegations of fraud, and their accounting firm is convicted felon Arthur Andersen. The same Halliburton who was under the helm of none other than VP Dick Cheney.

So CNN has decided to just delete them and pretend Halliburton does not exist!!

Does CNN think Dick Cheney exists?

I certainly hope so, because come Saturday afternoon he is officially president.

E-mail our 'friends' at CNN and ask them if they knew Halliburton was under investigation for at least a $100 Million dollar fraud (on the 'Who should we send this email to' click CNNmoney.com).

I know its an online email and no one likes to do those, but just remember that makes your one message 20-50 times more valuable. OK -- if you are too busy go ahead and use this: cnnmoney@money.com And don't think that just because it's CNN 'Money', it's not important. The Business/Money bureaus are where the news/political bureaus are going to look for sources.

And they just deleted Halliburton like it doesn't exist? We have got to hold these folks accountable or NO ONE will!

Re: Founding Fathers
Date: June 29, 2002

The Founding Fathers of America were prolific writers. It is easy to find out what their intentions were when they wrote our Constitution. The writings of Thomas Jefferson and James Madison in particular are very clear on the subject of the separation of church and state. They advocated a complete separation of church and state, indicating that the includion of "In god We Trust," on our money and "under god" in the Pledge of Allegiance would offend them. Why have we deviated from the intent of the Founding Father's? Why have we allowed religion to creep into our political system? Religion is a personal matter, and its inclusion in government is what we find so objectionable about governments like the Taliban and Iran. Why do we let it happen to our own nation? Let us return to traditional American values, those given to us by the Founding Fathers. Let us return to a separation of church and state.

RE: The real Rosie O'Donnell

I read with interest your (regrettably profane) comments about Rosie O'Donnell and have some information of interest for you [note from the APJ editors: profane though they may be, we can't help but agree].

According to Opensecrets.org. Rosie O'Donnell gave nothing to Clinton in 1992 or 1996 and nothing to Al Gore in 2000.

In 1999, she gave a thousand bucks to that good Democrat Elizabeth Dole.

She's given some serious money to Democrats. Looking at 1998-2000, Mike Honda, Mike Taylor, Corrine Brown, Jane Harman, Adam Schiff, Elaine Bloom, Carolyn McCarthy, Gerrie Schipske and Chuck Schumer, for example. Figure about $30,000 to individual candidates.

According to ABC News, her net worth is $113 million, so she gave about 0.03% of her stash (including to that good Democrat, Liddy Dole).

The average American family has a net worth more like $50,000. So, proportionately, any typical family who gave $20 is a far better Democrat than is Rosie with all her money.

Clearly, she is being disingenuous in blaming her distaste for Clinton on his taste in women.

But sluts serve valuable societal functions. I would not dignify Ms. O'Donnell with that appellation. She's just a fantasist.

Dear Anthony,

First, you should be aware that journalists should show some decorum and avoid the use of insults and words such as "moron" in e-mail correspondence. It gives one the impresion of a maturity deficit and serves to diminish your credibility.

It also cuts into the credibility of your paper. Moreover, I am sure your superiors would be less than happy with your rudeness and arrogance should they be made aware of it. Recall if you will the rather embarrassing tale of the Washington Post's Susan Schmidt, for example, when she threatened some individuals by e-mail a couple months back.

Second, there are instructions on unsubscribing to American Politics Journal at the end of each e-mail edition, to wit:

If you received this mailing from americanpolitics.com, continued
reception of our materials may be stopped at no cost to you by simply
sending a request to be removed to:

Please type "UNSUBSCRIBE" in the subject line (no quotes) with no

48 hours. Please DO NOT reply to this message if you wish to be removed.

Re: Kerry
Date: June 23, 2002

In response to J.J. Balzer's report on "Feed the Press", I saw the portion with Senator Kerry and I will say that he did a good job of deflecting Russert's dirty tricks.

There are some important points that weren't in J.J's report that feel must be raised.

The truth is, Senator Kerry really didn't say anything in his criticism of the white house thief that our elected President Al Gore hasn't already said. Kerry was again just being Mr. Copycat as he's been doing for the last year.

I was also bothered by Kerry's refusal to call for the elimination of the white house thief's welfare for the wealthy tax cut since we're back in deficits.

Finally, I think Senator Kerry's wife Theresa Heinz needs to ask her husband to agree to not engage in character assassination.

At the California State Democratic Party Convention earlier this year, Kerry made a very snide and nasty remark that Al Gore was the Democratic Presidential candidate hiding in the bunker. Shame on Kerry for comparing our elected President Al Gore with the unelected Dick Cheney who's still hiding in the bunker. As the people's choice for President in 2000, Al Gore can choose whatever democratic party event he decides he wants to attend and it's none of Kerry's business. Kerry has no business trying
to tamper with the will of the people which was so blatantly trampled by the white house thief and his goons in 2000. Al Gore is our elected President.

Kerry's silence about the stolen election has been deafening. How can Kerry say it's up to the people to decide when the people were prevented from deciding in 2000? I think it's important that people not be taken in so easily by Kerry's rhetoric. Kerry's in this for himself.
