Letting Their True Color(s) Show
Archconservative "Accuracy [sic] in Media" to Host White Supremacist Conference

By Tamara Baker

Jan. 11, 2001 -- SAINT PAUL, MINNESOTA (APJP) -- You know, I could have written about Enron today.

I could have discussed the revelations, all coming one after the other with the speed of a steamroller, concerning the dirty dealings of Kenneth Lay, Jeffrey "The Boy in Brazil" Skillings, and the other cheapjack punks who lifted tens of millions from a tottering company, even as they forbade their peons to sell off so much as a dollar of their own stock holdings.

I could have talked of how Enron's top brass spent lots of time talking to various Junta members this spring, trying to forestall Enron's collapse by any means they could: corporate-friendly tax rebates, begging the Treasury Department to cut them some slack, begging Greenspan to use his influence to keep Enron's finance ratings from being downgraded, things like that -- even as Lay and Company plundered Enron's substance.

I could have discussed how even the Houston Chronicle, that GOP company paper in a GOP company town, has been running columns and articles of such white-hot vehemence against Enron and the Bush Junta that it makes me wonder whether Tom DeLay, himself a long-standing Enron buddy, might find himself in dire political danger -- either at the polls, or in the legal system.

I could have talked about how Arthur Andersen, who knew about the duplicate set of cooked books kept by Enron, trashed a suspiciously large amount of Enron's records just before the Justice Department was set to come a-calling.

I could have even mentioned the BuzzFlash scoop, wherein a prominent Arthur Andersen Houston office suit was revealed to be one of Usurper Boy's "Pioneers" -- you remember, a "Pioneer" being a guy who helped raise at least $100,000 for George W. Bush's 2000 campaign?

But I won't.

Instead, I want to talk about what Bob Somerby of The Daily Howler has called "The Coming Conservative Crack-Up".

Simply stated, the American right wing has made the signal error of confusing its own propaganda with reality, and is now operating as if the lies its spews were the absolute truth. Granted, they have enough money and power to cushion them from the ill effects of their losing touch with the real world, but that won't last forever.

Why, they've gotten so arrogant in their belief that they are untouchable -- as untouchable as Enron seemed less than a year ago, or George W. Bush did before Enron fell -- that even the "respectable" cons aren't even bothering anymore to hide their true agenda.

Here's a wonderful example: you've heard of "Accuracy in Media", right? The conservative "media watchdog" group founded by Reed Irvine?

Now, they're been around awhile, they're not relative newbies like Ann "Miss Plagiarism 2000" Coulter and the Council for National Policy. So you'd think that they're probably respectable, sane, high-minded people...

...right?

Well, get a load of this!

American Renaissance Conference
February 22 - 24, 2002, Herndon, Virginia
Speakers include Jared Taylor, Sam Francis, Glenn Spencer, Dr.
Phillipe Ruston of the U. of Western Ontario, Prof. Michael
Levin of CUNY, Nick Griffin of the British National Party,
and many others.

The American Renaissance is a notorious white-supremacist group, an outfit with a touch more polish than most. The Anti-Defamation League has been following this group, and its associates, for some time, and keeps track of the various hate-group shindigs around the country.

The Conservative Crack-Up is upon us, folks. The cons aren't even bothering to hide their racism anymore, but, in their arrogance, letting their true color -- and colors -- show.
