Pressing John
...
don't be surprised if Ass-KKKroft himself becomes a "victim of the press!"
by Dave "Doctor" Gonzo

July 28, 2001 -- Washington, DC (APJP) -- Well, looky, looky, John. You've decided to show your true colors.

In an act of unbridled 21st century Fascism, you've decided to jail a journalist for refusing to disclose a confidential source.

But then, why should this surprise anyone, John? Protecting freedom of expression isn't exactly your top priority - after all, you've shown little compunction for getting to the bottom of what really happened in Florida last election day when the voters expressed a preference for Al Gore. The truth about the way that vote actually would have gone might further damage what little legitimacy your bosses have, Lord knows. And speaking of the Lord, it seems far, far more important to you that the press report your "deep, abiding faith," including details of your Crisco self-anointment - it doesn't seem to matter that most people find such displays self-serving at best, fanatical at worst. Heck, it doesn't even matter that the person you worship as a deity even condemned such public exercises as hypocritical. All that matters is that the press be used to convey the message to hard-right political operatives and pseudo-Christians that you're "one of them."

Well, John, it cuts both ways.

Your efforts to pressure your subordinates in the Justice Department into kowtowing to your narrow definition of religion gives non- Christians and libertarians zero faith in your ability to carry out your oath as Attorney General.

And now you've taken to targeting members of the press, using closed hearings, unnamed jurists, and jail.

This might qualify as "justice" if your boss were, say, Alberto Fujimori or Augusto Pinochet - or, for that matter, former Texas governor George W. Bush.

The truth is, your boss is Joe Six-pack - the American taxpayer.

And those who have been paying attention to your conduct don't trust you as far as they could throw a quart of Crisco.

That group, by the way, now includes members of the press - who have darn good reason to put every decision you make or ever have made under the microscope now that you've opened the door on communist- style Star Chamber tactics.

And don't think they haven't started already, John.

Now might be an opportune time to make a discrete exit from public life.
