Et tu, Mr. Munk?
Remember Jeffrey Archer, Part Two
By Tamara Baker
Friday, July 20, 2001 -- SAINT PAUL, MINNESOTA (APJP) -- Dear Peter Munk:
You must be feeling pretty stupid by now, aren't you?
By viciously attacking Gregory Palast and human rights lawyer Tundu Lissu, you have attracted the attention of journalists worldwide, including Joe Conason.
Furthermore, around the world, vicious right-wing intimidationist thuggery has had three major setbacks of late:
- Infamous Nazi apologist David Irving lost his own libel suit against Palast's paper not too long ago.
- David Brock recently revealed that he, with Clarence Thomas' knowledge and approval, lied about Thomas' accuser, Anita Hill, and also helped frighten one of Hill's supporters into falsely recanting her story.
- Jeffrey Archer, who relied on forged evidence and perjured testimony to win his 1987 libel suit against The Daily Star, has just been sentenced to four years in prison for doing so, and may face civil legal action as well.
So far, then, censorious right-wing thuggery is behind 0-for-3 in the count, and the fourth time ain't the charm, Mr. Munk.
You see, you've already lost. You wanted to keep the word of what happened at Buly -- and who was responsible -- out of media play. Instead, you wound up making it a very big story.
Time to pay the piper, Mr. Munk!
