Agriculture: Tom Harkin (D-IA) replaces Richard Lugar (R-IN).

Appropriations: Robert Byrd (D-WV) replaces Ted Stevens (R-AK). 

Armed Services: Carl Levin (D-MI) replaces John Warner (R-VA). 

Banking: Paul Sarbanes (D-MD) replaces Phil Gramm (R-TX). 

Budget: Kent Conrad (D-ND) replaces Pete Domenici (R-NM). 

Commerce: Fritz Hollings (D-SC) replaces John McCain (R-AZ). 

Energy: Jeff Bingaman (D-NM) replaces Frank Murkowski (R-AK). 

Environment: Jeffords (I-VT under a deal with the Democrats) replaces Robert Smith (R-NH). 

Finance: Max Baucus (D-MT) replaces Charles Grassley (R-IA). 

Foreign Relations: Joe Biden (D-DE) replaces Jesse Helms (R-NC). 

Government Affairs: Joseph Lieberman (D-CT) replaces Fred Thompson (R-TN). 

Health, Education, Labor: Edward Kennedy (D-MA) replaces Jeffords (R-VT). 

Judiciary: Patrick Leahy (D-VT) replaces Orrin Hatch (R-UT). 

Rules: Christopher Dodd (D-CT) replaces Mitch McConnell (R-KY). 

Small Business: John Kerry (D-MA) replaces Kit Bond (R-MO). 

Veterans' Affairs: Jay Rockefeller (D-WV) replaces Arlen Specter (R-PA).
