by the Editors

Sunday, Jan. 7, 2001 -- NEW YORK/WASHINGTON (APJ) -- The pundits piled on to what they spun as "piling on" -- Democrats "attacking" appointees to the Cheney-Card Administration, namely stealth Klansman and Injustice Minister nominee John Ashcroft, Despoilment of Nature Minister designee James-Watt-in-Drag Norton, and Minister for Suppressing labor Rights Linda Chavez.

But as we went to press, some of the late shows (CNN's Late Edition, for one) were abuzz with the first scandal of the Shrub Regime: ABC News is reporting that "Ministress of Anti-Labor" appointee Linda Chavez is reported to have housed an illegal alien to whom she was giving money.

Forget to pay that Social Security tax, Linda?  Oopsie!

Here's the Sunday spin, play-by-play.

FAUX New Sunday
Larry Lindsey proves himself -- a minor leaguer!

Tony Snow is STILL on vacation; Brit Hume (please, not AGAIN!) began FNS with his own spin: the economy is in trouble and Bush Baby has to do something about it; "liberals" (you could hear the contempt in his voice) have targeted Injustice Minister appointee John Ashcroft; and there will be power-sharing in the Senate.

Hilarious!  The contentious vote in yesterday's joint session of Congress didn't even merit mention as a topic!

"The economy stumbles badly...it has become a sore point between the Clinton Administration and the incoming Bush Administration," said Hume.  His guest: tax-cut hawk and Shrub advisor Lawrence Lindsey.  Lindsey tried to downplay the effect of interest rate cuts on the economy, talking ONLY about how they affect consumers, especially credit card users.  It was clear he wanted to get back to the topic of the sacred Bush Baby tax cuts -- and he did this by saying "the economy is in DEEP trouble."

Oh, please -- the economy is NOT in deep trouble.  Too many stocks, especially dot.coms, have been OVERVALUED.  Is that Clinton's fault, Lindsey?

Brit asked which cuts should come first.  Lindsey wants the tax rate cut -- we presume he is saying income taxes.  What a laugh -- the rich benefit hugely from this, and Joe Six-Pack gets back ten or twenty bucks a year.  Lindsey LIED and said that under the W. Putsch plan, the average taxpayer gets back $1600. The truth: that number was way off, and a simple rate cut will give your typical working family next to nothing.

To what extent will Lindsey urge Greenspan to take a particular course?  Lindsey said that there had already been "frank" exchanges.  Translation: Greenspan has taken Smirk and his idiot tax-cut scheme to thaw woodshed, and knows full well that the Senate is going to put the smackdown on El Smirko's silly plan.

Critics of Ashcroft "have vowed a fight," and Brit welcomed our favorite Republican curmudgeon, Sen. Orrin Hatch (R-UT).  Brit asked who would chair the hearings -- and IMMEDIATELY Hatch said Ashcroft is not in trouble!

But this is simply not true -- and Brit brought up Ashcroft's blocking of Judge Ronnie White from a federal seat.  Would Hatch call White as a witness?  Hatch said if the Dems said so and if he is chairman he would -- but he took credit for blocking right-wing groups for objection to Reno (not entirely true -- that was internecine politics on Hatch's part).

Fred "The Sleazel" Barnes practically said that "left-wing" groups should just "shut up" about Ashcroft as he asked Orrin a question that was a cue to defend Ashcroft.  Of course, moderates also oppose Ashcroft.  Hatch started ranting about a "cold-blooded" killer that White supposedly went easy on, detailing his gun crimes -- but all it did is convince viewers that we need tighter gun control!  Orrin also said that Ashcroft held the first racial profiling hearings -- but neglected to mention that the hearings tried to white-wash racial tensions in America.

Ceci Connelly said that blacks feel aggrieved about the outcome of the Presidential election -- does something need to be done about that sense of aggrievement?  Orrin said the smart thing -- that the GOP must be more sensitive to blacks -- and when Ashcroft becomes AG, he will uphold the laws.

Yeah, right.  The religiously demented Ashcroft will uphold Roe v. Wade and separation of church and state -- NOT!

Juan Williams fired a broadside against Ashcroft by discussing his defense of Confederate heroes -- a shame Juan didn't mention that the defense came in the racist neo-Confederate rag Southern Partisan.

An interesting question -- should Bush pardon Clinton?  Hatch is saying yes -- because "America should put this behind us."

Horse hockey -- Hatch knows this would just make Clinton look guilty of something -- ANY fake charge that right-wing hooligans will continue to hang on the best President we've had since Roosevelt.  Hatch may also have an inkling that Clinton has the goods on a number of Neofascists who tried to derail his presidency with an illegal perjury trap.

Following the break, an FNS-friendly conservative Democrat, John Breaux (D-LA), was the guest, supposedly present to discuss power-sharing -- but instead he said that a sweeping tax cut is dead on arrival!  Fred wanted a tax cut retroactive to January 1 -- but Breaux continued to say that a rate cut on taxes is nothing compared to a rate cut from the Fed.

Fred: is Ashcroft a racist?  Breaux said no, but there has been tremendous disagreement on his positions.  Both Ashcroft and Chavez have made controversial statements, he said.  Juan asked about "James Watt" Norton, and Breaux said that they will all likely be confirmed -- but the question for Ashcroft will be whether he plans to enforce the law his way or the law's way?

On the power-sharing deal, Breaux praised Tom Daschle and Trent Lott, saying that it helps the centerist coalition -- but not one word on how the deal was done.  Connelly asked if labor is pressuring for a trade-off -- they'll take Ashcroft but not Chavez.  Fred asked if it was "legitimate" to object to a nominee if they oppose abortion or the minimum wage -- Barnes was claiming there was some sort of "liberal litmus test" without saying so.  Juan brought up the issue of prescription drug imports and Medicare, and Breaux tried to give a complex answer in 25 words or less -- bottom line, yes, reform is needed, but not a word on price controls or, better yet, turning the price of prescription drugs into a trade issue.

Following the break, Roger Ailes and Brit Hume gave John McWhorter a chance to plug his neoconservative tome, "Losing the Race," which essentially says that "African-Americans" (as McWhorter calls them) have developed a cult of victimology, a cult of separatism and anti-intellectualism which equates being smart with being white.  The segment was a waste of time -- and McWhorter's slanted and polemical tome has been slammed by critics on BOTH sides of the political spectrum (yes, even conservatives are slamming McWhorter for an insulting and condescending attitude toward blacks).

McWhorter will likely become a frequent guest on FNS, FAUX News Channel and MSNBC -- he's articulate, likable, and comes across as a smarter version of Ward Connerly.  We were especially amused by his comment that he writes his books so he can get media exposure and does not really believe what he writes.  We bet he makes more this year in media and speaking fees than he does on the book.

He slammed the members of Congress who protested the theft of the presidency by Smirk -- and other activists such as Rev. Jesse Jackson and Rev. Al Sharpton -- as taking an "ironic joy in professional underdogism."

Oh, puh-leeze -- how the hell do you know what is going on in their heads and hearts, McWhorter?  Are you saying that they are not outraged by the VERY REAL racism that plagues our culture?  You're just another establishment whore trying to claim that all would be well if black people and other minorities would ignore their feelings of disenfranchisement and just shut up and assimilate.

Panel time!  Brit said tax cuts are in trouble because even Breaux is against it.  Fred said he was even surprised.  Juan said it will be "one thing at a time."  Ceci praised Breaux's suggestion that Bush Baby start with a few successes -- and slammed Bill Clinton for trying to do too many things out of the gate.  Put a sock in it, Ceci -- most of them would have helped people, and all Smirk seeks is a payoff for his rich supporters.

And NOBODY talked about cutting the national debt, which would cut the need for federal taxes by a huge margin.

Juan predicted a "dramatic moment" when Ronnie White testifies against John Ashcroft.

Ceci Connelly sees Hillary Rodham Clinton as a rising star who will make her points during the Chavez hearings.  Fred said the hot-button issues are race and abortion, in which Democrats are "totally consumed."

Well, duuuh, Fred -- because they are the issues that expose right-wing GOPers for the anti-freedom bigots and social engineers that they are!

Brit then ran a vid clip string of "aggrieved members" of the House objecting to the Florida electors.

Fred said that Alcee Hastings should have bragged about the black turnout -- seems Fred doesn't get the FACT that the voters that turned out were still intimidated and stripped of the vote, as our writer Mac MacArthur witnessed.  Ceci called it an "ironic final" moment for Gore -- as if it were Gore's final moment.  Juan said Gore's a tough, competitive guy and he sympathizes with Gore.  Fred compared Gore to -- catch this -- Marion Berry!

Can you stoop any lower, "Sleazel-el?"

Eat the Press
Stealth Shrub Press Secretary Tim Russert lies, lies and lies

Today’s pundit shows promised to be the biggest bore in recent TV history. "Slim" Tim Russert did not disappoint at the top of his show -- at least when he read his guest list, with read like the roll call at a hospice facility.

Russert started by showing members of the House Black Caucus rising on the floor to object to the certification of the vote for President-Non-Elect George W. Putsch. Not one senator would join the Black Caucus in protesting the vote in Florida -- where tens of thousands of black Americans were denied their votes systematically, with full knowledge of the Shrub and his entire team, including his sleazy mouthpiece Ben Ginsberg and, of course, James A. Baker  -- Former Secretary of the Treasury, and a man who should be in jail for what he did for Dwayne Andreas.

Two Democrat senators, Joe Biden (D-DE) and John Kerry (D-MA) just sat there and said this, if you can believe it: “Let bygones be bygones." These two were a complete disgrace to the Democratic Party -- and so was the Vice President himself, who sat as President of the Senate yesterday and rebuked a dozen Black House Members for their attacks on the Florida vote. If only one, just one, Democrat senator had signed the House protest, the vote would have been thrown into a war where the truth, at least, would have come out -- even if BushBaby had been finally installed in the White House.

Two infamous liars were also "Slim's" guests.

Senator Fred Thompson (R-Hollywood) -- famous for demonizing Chinese Americans and thereby ruining his reputation so badly that he could not run for President -- sat with Russert and defended the appointment of racist fool John Ashcroft. Thompson, whom we used to respect, has sold himself out for a punk president.

The other idiot was cretinous Senator John Kyl (R-Not even worth mentioning).

Biden then said he would not vote to confirm the liar -- Spencer Abraham -- who was just thrown out of his Senate seat thanks to work by one of American Politics Journal's founders.  Biden told Russert that he believes Abraham wants to get rid of the Department of Energy so the Shrub’s oil buddies can sell our nation and our resources  down the river. “Why would I vote to confirm someone who wants to dismantle his department?”

Biden then claimed he loves Strom Thurmond. Ha, ha, ha, ha -- talk about a schizophrenic who is now planning a presidential run in 2004!

John Kerry suggested that BushBaby, who claims he is a uniter (by the by, there is no such word as "uniter" -- the word is "unifier" -- but then again, what do you expect from the Shrub?), put Ashcroft in because other more moderate choices  raised the ire of the Neofascist wing of the GOP, who are now dictating what the Shrub will do.  Kerry then brought up the fact that Ashcroft was only one of two senators who blocked the appointment of James Hormel, a gay entrepreneur, only because of his sexual preference. Ashcroft also blocked the nomination of another black American, Dr. David Satcher, as Surgeon General, and black American Judge Ronnie White for the federal appeals bench.

Make no mistake.  Ashcroft is a racist -- and the worst kind bred in Missouri where tens of thousands of black Americans live in almost total poverty in East St. Louis. And let's not forget Ashcroft’s behind-the-scenes role in blocking the appointment of Bill Lan Lee.

Russert, thank God, read as excerpt from the infamous speech by “Asscraft” in which he said that he stands against conciliation with Democrats and an end to these violent and baseless attacks on Democrats.

Robert Torricelli, the biggest asshole in the Senate, has also defended John Ashcroft. But Torricelli -- the most selfish piece of garbage in the Democratic  Party -- could not be relied upon to defend his own mother!

Biden then went into his “we know John, we like John” song and dance -- he has to explain his decisions here.

Biden then essentially said he doesn’t give a damn about black American interest groups. Huh? This was likely because a number of such groups helped set the agenda for a Biden-chaired hearing and then talked about how they made Biden do their bidding.  But Biden -- already acting like a silent racist in his bid for the Presidency (to attract the same racists that back the Shrub) -- would be a sure loser, and will not get the Democratic nomination in 2004.

Russert asked whether Kyl would accept Ted Kennedy as Attorney General if Gore had won. Kyl lied, and said yes. He then lied again and said that Janet Reno has not upheld the law during her eight years as Attorney General -- and again as he gushed about Ashcroft’s opposition to White. Kerry turned on Kyl, and told the truth: that Ashcroft went all over the nation, recruiting hard-right police organizations to oppose White for being soft on criminals -- which his record shows he is NOT.

Then the smug blowhard Thompson took one last opportunity to malign Janet Reno. But the war has begun -- it is obvious that the GOP will not attempt to bloody Ms. Reno’s reputation in order to force Ashcroft down the Democrats throats. We hope that won’t work.

And we will be watching very closely.

An ADM commercial followed.

Then Russert turned to McCain’s campaign finance bill push this next week. Thompson said that McCain will come up early but had better be a bill that does not damage "one side or the other." This is GOP-speak for killing union participation in elections in exchange for killing the MUCH LARGER “gifts" and bribes from corporate America.

Kyl said the same.

But here's what went unsaid: If the Democrats are smart, they will agree on the CASH issues and then let the unions organize their people -- something corporations could NEVER do.

Biden thinks that McCain-Feingold is just a little drop in the bucket. It will happen. Biden makes a good point -- if you are going to allow every union member to opt out of participating in Union PACS, then you must also disallow corporations who have stockholders that want to opt out.

Corporations raised $100 million more than unions -- more than 15 times what unions raised!

That is the real issue here -- the GOP wants that money, and they won’t give it up.

Campaign finance reform will never pass.

Kyl brings up another lie of his -- that corporations gave 50/50 to the Democrats and Republicans. A totally fraudulent statement.

NOBODY mentioned that McCain's heavily-covered press conference together with Russ Feingold managed to glom the spotlight and not only put the Chicken George team on the defensive but actually highlight their diminished status.

Tax cuts were next. Where will this wind up? 1.4 trillion? 7-800 billion? No one would answer. There will be tax cuts -- but let us pray that they won’t fall on the back of much-needed social programs that the Clinton Administration destroyed to keep their power.

Thompson wants rate reductions -- held at ONE THIRD of your income. Gee -- how nice.

Then came the Meet the Press roundtable.  Russert started a discussion with William Kristol and Clarence Page (not a  good defender for the Democrats) about racism by pointing out (a lie) that because Bush appointed Rice and Powell, he proves that his mindset is not racist.

This, of course is not true.

First of all, Texas is a well-known racist state  We know a lot of Texans here at APJ -- and they will be the first to agree that this is the sad truth about their home state.

Second, Bush himself recently sold his home and transferred the deed -- COMPLETE WITH A "NO NIGRA" CLAUSE -- without removing that ILLEGAL clause, even though the press pounced on it.  The deed is on the public record.

Last, of course, is the fact that Rice and  Powell are simply sell-outs, black Americans who sold their souls to the devil -- THE RACIST GOP -- because they knew they would get unbelievable opportunity from the Republicans who are constantly seeking puppets to act as beards, pretense-peddlers and worse for the party.

That is fine. They are entitled to whore for the people they work for -- people whose country clubs and dinner clubs and even fraternities and sororities would never allow them entry because of the color of their skin.

Condoleeezzza "White" Rice would have been just another professor among thousands had she not sold out early to George Herbert Iran-Contra Bush Sr.

And Colin Powell -- who know well how badly blacks were treated in the military as they were fed to the Johnson-Nixon meat grinder by the tens of thousands in Vietnam -- sold out not only his people but the nation in Southeast Asia by helping to cover up the My Lai massacre -- merely to wet his own wick. He repeated his loser status during Desert Storm.

Linda Chavez -- the closest thing to a female fascist we've seen since Ann "Orexic" Coulter -- has done the same during for her entire career. She's an Hispanic-American sellout. Period.  Chavez merely sells out the latest wave of Hispanic escapees from the likes of El Salvador, Guatemala, Mexico and other despicable oligarchies, fleeing indescribable poverty only to be mistreated in the United States as well because they don't look white or speak English. Now she will move to destroy the unions that attempt to protect them once they legally enter the workforce.

Chavez is such a sleazebag that she accused Senator Barbara Murkowski, a wonderful women Senator and a moderate, of being a Marxist when Chavez ran against her and lost so badly she couldn’t show her painted-prostitute face for months.

Chavez, to our mind, is even more disgusting an appointment than White-Rights Ashcroft. She is now pretending to be a moderate -- but don't believe it for a minute.  She has absolutely no scruples -- none. She perpetuated lies about Clinton during his attempted political lynching by Kenneth Winston Starr (yes, that is his middle name -- appropriate for a tobacco whore lawyer, don't you think?). She hates unions.

Now she is the appointee to run the Smirking Moron's Ministry of Destroying Unions, Workplace Safety, and Workers' Rights.

It's a great country, isn't it?

The McLaugh-In Group
Bounty of Bloviation

Issue one: bounty of billionaires!  John McLaugh-In celebrated the new prosperity -- even running Bill Clinton praising the Clinton Prosperity.  But then John fumbled, implying the modern explosion of wealth started in 1982.  Question -- the difference between today's billionaires and robber barons of a century ago?  Larry Kudlow DEFENDED robber barons., saying those awful Liberals  were dissing them!  Kudlow said the predictable pap about how great entrepreneurs are -- and the prosperity will continue if the government does not interfere.  Eleanor Clift reminded Kudlow that the robber barons laundered their money to conceal the shady way they got rich -- then slammed today's billionaires for selfishness.  Dinesh D'Sousa got a book plug from John before he praised the rise of a "mass affluent class" -- but ignored the fact that these new millionaires are disproportionately white and from upper-middle-class families in the first place!  Mort Zuckerman said that intellectual capital has created the economic boom, and many young people have gotten rich by converting knowledge-based value into stock value.  There was some boring pap about tax rates, the global reach of intellectual capital, and tariffs.  Kudlow tried to say that the 1980s and 90s tax rollbacks helped the economy -- but Eleanor said that being a millionaire ain't what it was.

Will there be tax cuts?  Eleanor forecast a lifting of the estate tax for small farmers.  Kudlow said a "rising tide lifts all boats" -- tell that to kids in Texas colonias, Kudlow.  D'Sousa spun "double taxation."  Mort muttered something.  John didn't say it, but he essentially agrees with Eleanor!

Issue two: whaddabout wannabees?  Footage of Pat BuKKKanan railing against middle-class tax burdens as John talked about the middle-class aspiring to be rich -- and consuming luxury goods.  The middle-class squeeze is out, and consumption is in.  Is the obsession with money making the middle class live beyond their means?  Mort said it's better to be nouveau-riche than not rich at all.  John spoke ominously of the high debt burden of the middle class.  Kudlow said that there's been a $33 trillion increase in household worth -- and that it's time to lower taxes and regulations.  John tried to claim that Al Gore was engaged in class warfare -- but Eleanor said that the poor generally don't vote.  D'Sousa seemed shocked that Gore appealed to the rich.  Mort said that the pluses for Bush outweighed the minuses.

Face the Shrub

Bob Schieffer welcomed "Senate Majority Leader" Tom Daschle -- who ate up being called top dog in the Senate!  Schieffer asked about hearings on the most controversial Smirk appointees -- and Daschle said they would start this week.  Which one, asked Schieffer, is in the most trouble?  Daschle named three: Ashcroft, Chavez and Norton.

Gloria Borger asked Daschle if he agreed with a labor leader who called Chavez's appointment an "insult to working people."  Daschle all but agreed, raising questions about her positions and background.  Daschle will not rule out a filibuster -- and Schieffer said this looks to be unprecedented.

Make no mistake -- Daschle is couching his language in the usual coded punditese

Schieffer said that ABC News is reporting that Chavez had an illegal alien in her employ and paid her for odd jobs.  Daschle said that if that is the case, it presents a serious problem.

Translation: She's toast.  Nice going, Smirk!

Schieffer said he has also read that Sen. Joe Biden (D-DE) may vote against Ashcroft -- and Daschle said he does not know of one Democrat who is NOT prepared to vote against Ashcroft.  Schieffer said that because Ashcroft is an ex-Senator, his appointment is likely, but what Daschle is saying throws conventional thinking out the window.

Daschle then dropped a small bomblet -- he knows of Republicans who will ask tough questions of Ashcroft.  he said "it would not be fair" to name names.

Daschle also added that Ronnie White is likely to testify.  Borger said GOPers call this "playing the race card," but Daschle replied that it is only fair to do what republicans have done in the past.

Translation: Democrats are going to beat on the Dumb Dauphin, the Cheney-Card Administration, and EVERY appointee.  The GOP will regret blocking judgeships -- BIG TIME.

On the issue of tax cuts, Daschle said that monetary policy is far more important than tax cuts -- in other words, when it comes to the economy, Greenspan is President, and Smirk appointee Larry Lindsey had better heel!

Guest two --Sen. Thad Cochran (R-MS), who is vigorously supporting campaign finance reform legislation with Sen. John McCain.  He said that advocacy ads have become perhaps the biggest problem, but cited other issues surrounding campaign financing.  Schieffer said that Shrubya feels McCain-Feingold will put the GOP at a disadvantage -- and Cochran did not necessarily disagree.  Borger said some GOPers are complaining that McCain is trying to shove reform down Little George's throat (Cochran would not deny it), saying it is time to discuss this and other reform legislation, including disclosure.

Will Ashcroft be confirmed?  Cochran naturally said yes and praised his record (so count on this to be a partisan fight) -- but on the subject of Chavez, Cochran said that he had just read the story and wants to hear her side -- not exactly wholehearted support.

Michael Duffy from Time was the final guest.  He cited the very conservative Cheney-Card Cadre of Ministers.  Schieffer said he thinks campaign reform will pass the Senate -- and Kelly said "McCain will stand outside [Shrub's] window and howl all night" until he gets reform.  Borger suspects that a filibuster-proof majority will be formed.  Kelly "marveled" at the power-sharing agreement -- but all the Beltway knows that Daschle and the Dems threatened to derail the coronation of Shrub by signing on to a challenge to the Florida electors.  Schieffer wanted to talk about Judge Ronnie White testifying against Ashcroft.  Kelly pointed out that his appointment was defeated on a party-line vote.  Borger said Daschle was careful to say Shrub is entitled to make his choices -- but approval is not a rubber-stamp process.  The Christian Reich, she added, supports Ashcroft, progressives do not.  Schieffer said (and looked and sounded as if) he is very excited about the year in politics to come.

Schieffer's last word was on the late bandleader Les Brown and his nostalgic look back at the days when radio was king.

This Weak
With "Scam" Donaldson and "Cocky" Boggs, on their last legs

We could hardly wait to watch "Cocky" Cokie Boggs Roberts sell out to the Republicans in a vain attempt to keep her mother on as the Ambassadorette to the Vatican under the BushBaby Administration -- a ludicrous position in the first place inasmuch as the Vatican is not really a nation, but a nation-state based solely upon the Catholic Religion, which only 22% of Americans cleave to.

We feel the same about Israel -- so don’t get angry.

It is unconstitutional for the nation to be posting ambassadors to religions. If it is not, then why do we not have an ambassador to Islam, Mormon, The Church of England etc.? The Vatican, of course, poses a unique problem in that it has little or no impact on the world. It has no standing armies or a navy -- save for the Pope’s private yachts, barges and costumed Swiss Guards.

Anyway, lets see what happens -- will Cokie’s mother come home and run for office again? We hope so -- but only so that we can for once support the Republican!

“Now it’s official -- he’s president, but a president with problems!” said Sam "Scam" Donaldson. Cokie said that the African-American House Caucus walked out of the presidential confirmation. Also, what happens when the Fed cuts rates and the market still tanks?

You elect Bush Baby president, that's what!

But Scam gave us a bit of good news, news that would immediately show up on the media, cable news and newspaper.com radar -- that Linda Chavez had an illegal maid in her household!!!! Chavez claimed that it was an act of compassion!

This was one of the BIGGEST laughs the Pundit Pap team has ever had! Mac MacArthur nearly got a hernia he was laughing so hard.

Chavez had said that she “suspected” that this woman was in the country illegally -- but she really didn’t care!

Ha, ha, ha, ha, ha -- that was the end of Chavez! Morrie in our media room shouted "Stick a fork in THAT burrito -- she's DONE!"

The first guest on This Weak was Sen. John McCain (R-Hanoi Hilton) to push his campaign finance reform act. You can guess what he said. Boooooorrrrrrring. We grabbed some coffee.

Cokie was upset that Republicans and Democrats will start off the year screaming at each other! Right. What a moron.

Former janitor turned religiously demented politico Don Nickles (R-Senator in a Drum) stuck his neck out with the much smarter Rev. Jesse Jackson. Jackson messed with him, suggesting that perhaps Chavez was in an arrangement to produce a new business of indentured slavery!

We were again beside ourselves with laughter. This was already the funniest single episode of a pundit show in months! The only thing missing was a laugh track!

The former Janitor said that he has known John Ashcroft for many years, "[h]e is well respected," yadda, yadda, yadda -- boilerplate straight from the desk of stealth president-elect Big Time Cheney. "HE WILL BE CONFIRMED!" -- a flash from the idiot Nickles. Jackson hit Ashcroft. Nickels got mad and said nothing intelligible.

Larry Lindsay, the corpulent economic advisor to Dumbya, then joined This Weak to bore us to death with talk of tax cuts and the economy. He thinks he might speed up the tax cuts. We say fat chance -- he obviously wasn't listening to the Democrat pols on any of the Sunday shows. Cokie wants to lower withholding. Lindsay says he would think about it.

As if he has a say.

Following the break: the square table of blockheads! George "Staphylococcus" said that the huge tax cut argument is specious. It will not do a thing now. Staph is right -- for once! Cokie said that this is "The Perfect Storm" -- ha, ha, ha, ha -- good one, Cokie! She also thinks that this tax cut will get farther than most people think.

“He can still take credit for it! I set it up. I got it done.” Scam reminded Cokie of when Reagan cut taxes and then spent like a drunken whore.

Will said --like the unreliable and inaccurate moron that he is -- "I hope that last 20 years keeps repeating itself over and over again."

It seemed as if Cokie and Sam couldn’t get any guests to come on their crummy show today. The show was only half over -- and no more guests!

Scam brought up the protest of the Black Caucus -- and played footage of the joint session booing Maxine Waters. Gore admonished her -- a disgrace. Will said that it was “Moral Exhibitionism."

Right, you stooge -- standing up for minorities that were stripped of their right to vote by the thousands is some kind of perversion -- if you're white, rich, smug and wrong.

The discussion was so bad, so boring that some of us fell asleep. Will said the Democrats got their shot at Bush -- they lost, now they can’t complain about his appointments!

Did he say this when the GOP was killing Clinton’s appointments?

We were then treated to a complete waste of airtime -- lamebrain correspondent Chris Furie showing clips from his Clinton Years -- some producer's stupid idea of how things worked in the White House.

It was nonsense -- but do check out PBS Frontline this week!

Not mentioned

None of the Sunday big-mouths mentioned that some of the members of Congress who objected to the Florida electors went so far as to do what we have -- question the very legitimacy of George W. Bush's so-called "win" in Florida and nationally.  It is as if the press is going out of their way NOT to raise questions about the little Texan's legitimacy -- and dare not even BREATHE a word about a "bogus POTUS."

Likewise, the silence over any connection between not one senator rising to object to the Florida electors and the unexpected "power-sharing" deal in the Senate was nothing less than eerie. There was more backroom maneuvering on the Hill this week than there was during almost all of last year.

Finally, the political news was dominated by two other stories this week -- McCain and friends going on the offensive for campaign reform and three key Bush appointees suddenly being seen as vulnerable.

Can anyone say "balance of power tipping toward Congress?"
