The Bravest Lady in America: Update

Tuesday, August 29, 2000 -- ST. PAUL, MINN. (AmpolNS) -- I got a very unsettling e-mail the other day, concerning Julie Hiatt Steele.

If you're a student of the finer points of the history of the last three years, you know that Julie Hiatt Steele was the person who refused to lie on known liar Kathleen Willey's behalf so that Willey's already-tattered credibility (she had to be given a second immunity grant after she violated the terms of her first one by lying about one of the affairs she'd had) could be bolstered.

This was important to Ken Starr, because Willey needed to be found credible in order for CoupGate and Newt Gingrich's dream of 'double impeachment' (first Clinton, then Gore) to happen. David Hale and Jim McDougal, Starr's other 'star witnesses', were both tainted beyond belief; it fell to Kathleen Willey to justify Starr's hunger for impeachment and removal of Bill Clinton from the highest office of the land.

Julie Hiatt Steele, a mere slip of a lady, was the only thing standing in the path of a 'judicial-murder' coup that would have given us President Gingrich and the probable introduction of martial law, and the end of democracy in America forever. All Steele had to do was to go along with her friend Kathy Willey's urgings to lie on her behalf. Julie at first was tempted to help out a friend, but when she realized just what Kathy Willey wanted her to do, she refused to go along with the scheme.

Because of her refusal to play by Starr's rules, Julie Hiatt Steele, the bravest lady in America, is now destitute.

She's almost certainly going to lose her house this week, thanks to Ken Starr.

She is the only person involved in the Monica 'endgame' portion of CoupGate to actually be tried by Starr, and he and his OIC minions (including Robert Ray, who has refused to let Julie off the hook even though Starr himself failed to put her into an orange jumpsuit) have, as they have virtually every other person they have targeted with their limitless taxpayer-financed resources, forced her from having a comfortable living and lovely home to poverty and debt. Starr's harassment meant not only the loss of her job, but the inability to get a new one in a place where Kathleen Willey is in very tight with the local powers that be, as well as the OIC.

Worse yet, Starr's people even tried to take away her child, Adam.

Remember the dank, nightmarish Romanian orphanages of the late 1980s, filled to bursting with the sad victims of madman Nicolae Ceaucesu's decision to increase the population of his country regardless of the cost to its social structure? Remember the underfed babies crying in their iron cribs, lying in their own filth?

Adam was one of those babies.

Julie moved heaven and earth to adopt him, even though, as a divorced and single mother, she had to jump through dozens of hoops to prove her fitness to raise Adam in America. And then, ten years later, Ken Starr stepped in to try and take Adam away from her. She was barely able to stop him from doing so.

She's tried to get funding on her own, make no mistake. But if the OIC isn't attacking her, many of the bozos who frequent the right-wing 'Free Republic' web site are trying to add to her misery. "Freepers" made a point of going to a web site established for her legal defense fund and making fake 'donations' using false credit card numbers. Since credit card companies charge businesses and nonprofits for each transaction, fraudulent or not, a few fanatical Freepers wound up costing the legal defense fund thousands of dollars.

If any Ampol readers out there can think of a way to help Julie, either through a job or financial aid, let me know courtesy of the editors. This is your chance to give back to a woman who has literally given everything she has -- her life, her fortune, and her sacred honor -- in defense of her country and of the truth.

Let's see the good guys win for a change, OK?
