"Iowans love bad boys," says Mac MacArthur

THURSDAY, AUGUST 12th, 1999 -- NEW YORK/AMES, Iowa -- American Politics Journal is predicting George W. Bush Jr. as the victor -- by a landslide -- at Iowa's Straw Poll this Saturday.

George W. Bush Jr. -- 38%
Steve Forbes -- 17%
Elizabeth Dole -- 9%
Pat Buchanan -- 8%
John McCain -- 7%
Gary Bauer -- 6%
Dan Quayle -- 6%
Alan Keyes -- 5%
Lamar Alexander -- 4%

The poll results are based on 2,654 interviews conducted on August 11 by American Politics Journal via internet random sample from self selected respondents totalling  28,965 Iowa qualified voters with a margin of error of +/- 3%%.

The poll also differs quite markedly in its results from other polls which have been circulated to the media -- one of which drew its results from a ridiculously low sample of just over 300 people.
