| Op-Ed and Letters from Our Readers From: M. Bolton [in response to "Home Invasion Targets Senate"] Isn't it about time we got rid of these theocrats? Religion has no place in politics. Muslim fundamentalists are exactly the same as so-called Christian fundamentalists. Hate -- driven -- will we go back to heretics and lollardy? Religion is based purely on heresay and stories; there is no place for it in a free society. A free populace would be at liberty (something the USA was allegedly founded on) to believe whatever they choose, without oppression. Your right-wingers and Bible punchers are laughable. If only they weren't so heeded by your idiot politicos. Time for the ordinary man to sit up and recognize the situation -- it is poor Joe Public who finances the world, and it's time we had a say in how things are and how they are going to be to the big corporations. From: "Brian Mellies" It appears that when our "good ole boy" Trent has to do something other than write columns for, and suck up to, southern white racists, or divert massive amounts of money to Mississippi based government pork, he appears to be an ineffective Majority Leader. In his own mind (scary place to be on a dark night) he may think of himself as important. But it is becoming obvious that he has little power or authority, which makes him, in a word, impotent. Out of greed and avarice and a thirst for power, the Republicans, all of them, went to bed with the devil, whom I identify as the religious ultra-right. They made their bed, now they must lie in it. It is not Bill Clinton who will be the ultimate victim of this unholy alliance. History will see this for what it is. The Republican Party itself will pay a huge price for what they are doing. They are going to find themselves back in the wilderness they so richly deserve. Let the trial begin! From: Kenneth Yarosevich This is a quote from "Pundit Pap", signed "The Editors" and dated Jan. 4 1999, which I recently received via my email subscription:
Besides, the house brand of vegetables at the supermarket I shop at is better than Green Giant or DelMonte anyway, and I learned long ago not to buy toasters that set the house on fire. From: Ed Rothstein Re: Support Locked Out Workers at Crown Central Petroleum Rally at The Jacob Blaustein Institute Thursday, January 14, 1999 at 12 Noon On February 5, 1996, Crown Central Petroleum locked out 250 members of the Oil, Chemical & Atomic Workers Union at its Pasadena oil refinery. The National AFL-CIO has launched a national BOYCOTT of CROWN. Crown wants to break the union. Crown wants its workers to agree to the permanent replacement of nearly half its workers and elimination of seniority. Crown has been charged with discrimination in a Texaco-style lawsuit. Crown also has been charged in another lawsuit with polluting the environment and damaging the health of nearby residents. Heirs of Jacob Blaustein, the founder of Amoco, have controlling interest in Crown and are turning a blind eye to union busting, racism, sexism and environmental degradation in Pasadena, Texas. Join us and help expose the contradiction! The members of the Administrative Council of The Jacob Blaustein Institute for the Advancement of Human Rights have forgotten that its funds came from the profits generated over the decades by oil workers. Let's remind them of this contradiction! Join us and spread the word! If you realize the great danger we are in with GOP Christian Reich hate-mongers, sexual witchhunters, gay-bashers and un-Constitutional lawbreakers willing to take this nation down to "get Clinton," then we urge you to bring everyone you can to this rally event.
